Onychomycosis caused by Trichophyton rubrum
An 8 year old male presents with a history of progressive nail dystrophy for greater than 6 months. Exam shows thickening and brittleness of the distal nail plate with loss of the distal half of the nail. toetrub.jpg - 14217 Bytes

Note: Onychomycosis in prepubertal children is uncommon but not rare. In almost all cases an adult family member is similarly affected and is the usual source. In this instance both patients grew Trichophyton rubrum
